The case of the missing baseboards continues, but I’m done caring because I have been able to take a bath while thumbing through Martha Stewart Living magazine in here, thereby ascending into the dangerously boring upper echelon of Embarrassing Adult White Lady Stuff. • This bathroom remodel was one lesson after another (to sum up: don’t hire cheap dum dums) but it’s mostly done and at one specific person’s request I updated notquiteprimrose.tumblr.com (and no it was not my mother! It was @lizzyunger!) #notquiteprimrose
🆘 please someone help me: I can’t stop laughing at this and how much I love it? Can’t even tell you how long I’ve had this photo saved in my phone and now I know what I was saving it for. (I also want it on a t-shirt, a beach towel, a wall tapestry, and as a tattoo possibly on my face). Robyn Rihanna Fenty forever, amen 🙏🏼
Unless you beg me convincingly, I don’t think I am taking any more custom work for the rest of the year. But! I hope to have several paintings and illustrations (like this one!) up for sale as a run of limited prints by Dec 3. If enough people request the same thing in the comments - a certain quote, an image from the year, a portrait of a famous figure, a building lots of people love- I’ll try to get that included in the run. Don’t forget to shop intentionally and support small and local business this holiday season 🙏🏼🙃
House, meet color. Color, welcome home! But, uh, don’t touch that - or that!- and keep your dirty mitts off that and stay in your corner! •
I bought a painting that is 8’x6’ this weekend while I was estate sale’ing with my mother-in-law. She got Matt and I hooked and now we love to grab coffee and head out to treasure hunt in fancy neighborhoods on Saturday mornings, so when she found one in Dunthorpe this weekend I was all in! I ended up getting this painting (for *$250* which doesn’t even get close to the material costs of what it would take to make something like this. It’s by a Portland artist, originally purchased in the 70s and priced for sale at $895). Getting it home was... an adventure involving our trusty Subaru, a roll of duct tape, 4 bungee cords, sheer stubbornness, and driving veerrry slowwwly. 😬
• I also had an armful of vintage YSL pillbox hats, art coffee table books, and a vintage set of @craneandco stationery AND had my eye on a gorgeous sable fur coat but reigned it in at the last minute. No fur or impractically formal hats made it home with me 😤
• When we moved into the house last year we realized we didn’t have all the house-and-yard stuff that feels like background noise before you’re a homeowner (a rake, garden tools, a stepladder, a lawn mower, various wrenches and pliers, shelves in the garage) but that, -surprise!- does not in fact come in a free “welcome to home ownership!” care package. We ended up finding all of these items and more at estate sales for only a fraction of what they’d cost new, PLUS they tend to be better quality because they are older items made with more metal and less plastic.
• The painting is not oriented correctly in this photo- it should be rotated clockwise 90° so the blue is in the upper left corner - and we haven’t decided exactly where it will go, but, like everything else at #notquiteprimrose it works for now!
Ok so listen. IS Chateau Marmont the MOST bizarre place I’ve ever been? Almost, yeah!
DID we see any celebrities?? No! (Ok well Kate did but it was some guy who was in Newsies who wasn’t Christian Bale so... still no).
WERE we *fully* ignored by the entire waitstaff upon being seated for like 40 minutes? 100 percent!! Did they deliver our food to the wrong table? Sure did!
DID we eavesdrop on the WORST business pitch by some “famous” YouTuber we still can’t find online after much research? Of COURSE we did..
*IS* @katebtl the best friend and an absolute angel for catching this glowy shot of me between bursts of laughter after she berated our server with an attitude of ice and steel only she and she alone can deliver steadily?! Hell yes.
So WAS our lunch there worth $200 and did it fulfill all my Hollywood dreams? ... please. Of course. Already plotting my return.
I came (to LA)• We saw (@myfavoritemurder live) • We “stayed sexy and didn’t get murdered” even though Ed Kemper from @mindhunter was the special guest! • If you have no idea what I’m talking about, yes- this is all... kind of as offensive as it sounds. @katebtl hooked us up with tickets to see a live taping of one of our favorite true crime podcasts (on Halloween!!!) and it was SO fun! 🔪👻 #ssdgm #mfmlive #murderino
Who else goes absolutely HAM on the house cleaning on Sundays? I spent 4 hours yesterday working on the kitchen, Bon-Ami’ing and Barkeeper’s Friend’ing and listening to John Mayer, the Ultimate Housecleaning Music for Women of A Certain Age™️ and Matt vacuumed and did the laundry and gave the dog a bath and we switched the bed to flannel sheets and now I just want to swan around my clean house not working and not touching anything.
A Dog Who Is Ready For The Weekend and Would Like to Not Think About Work For 24 Hours Oh Wait That’s Me (2018)
Suspiciously enjoying this incredible stretch of golden autumn days in Portland and all the nice light it’s bringing as I’ve been cooped up inside the house working nonstop. • I don’t share much from the downstairs part of our #notquiteprimrose project because aside from putting in new carpet last year, we’re still not sure what to do with it. I popped this plant down here a few weeks ago though and it’s literally brought life to a previously dead space - it must respond well to Fortnite and Big Mouth, the things most recently and frequently on the tv down here (??) because it is thriving and making me so smiley!
Never not hunting for unique art or prints to decorate our white walls. Found these monogram studies by J.M. Bergling at @theasvintageliving today - on the hunt for a “J” next...
