Some of Both

I draw.

I paint.

I work analog.

I work digital.

Sometimes I need to combine it all with type in a layout for web, social, or print.

Is it design, or illustration? Sometimes it’s both.

CUSTOM CRESTS

Creating custom crests for clients in the tradition of ancestral heraldry, but using modern and playful lettering, color, and iconography is a joy for me.
I start by asking the couple or family for a dozen or so symbols, hobbies, activities, sacred places, and of course, pets - and then construct a beautiful ode to it all.
The crests often serve as visual branding for wedding celebrations, and I provide them as custom art prints, as well as files to screenprint onto napkins, tea towels, pillows, matchbooks, and more.

CUSTOM MAPS

I’ve loved atlases and maps since I was a kid, so adding “amateur cartographer” to my resumé has been a thrill for 8-year-old me.
It’s a bit more time consuming to get right than you might think, but when done correctly can be both functional and beautiful, which is at the heart of every good piece of design.

Wellmont theater poster series

The storied Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey reached out to me to create limited edition posters, specifically to be printed and framed and presented to the performers as a thank-you gift.
Chelsea Handler posted about hers on her Instagram which made me cry, and I heard from my contact there that David Blaine, my second-ever celebrity crush (please… no further questions) saw the Dita Von Teese one and was very taken with it, which also made me cry.
