I keep coming back to this picture of my dog as like, the visual representation of my inner emotional life this year. Anyway it’s too hot to think- let’s not do anything today.

In addition to riding a yellow tandem bike, what’s on your summer bucket list? ☀️ Here’s my summer accomplishments list so far:: ✔️bike ride with dad ✔️al fresco dinners on our back deck ✔️attend first of three weddings ✔️celebrate some Gemini friends’ birthdays with a real night out ✔️boat day on the river ✔️ get hit by a car and go on my first ambulance ride (not *traditionally* a summer activity- special 2018 edition because of course it is) ✔️family vacation to Atlanta ✔️fall way behind in work deadlines!!!

Sistine Chapel ceiling kind of sky for solstice • Not a single filter on a single one of these • I found it to be a sliver of relief last night during yet another absurdly difficult news week. I’d taken a bag of supplies to the #occupyicepdx camp, and was listening to the news and scrolling Twitter in a nauseating loop and getting sad and feeling helpless and then feeling resolve to do something, throwing myself or some more money at it, repeat. • I know a lot of you feel the same and it’s hard to focus on work or anything else knowing what thousands of families are dealing with at the hands of our government. Then I think about a book I just read, Evicted, about the effect of evictions on the poverty cycle in America. I’m reading another book called The Best We Could Do- a beautiful graphic novel about the author’s family’s experience with the Vietnam war and how they came to the US as refugees. I think about the incarceration epidemic, and the Black Lives Matter movement and Me Too and and AND... • I’m overwhelmed by how hard this life is for so many, many people- so I just cannot fathom how hellbent some other people are on not making it any iota easier for one another. • Anyway, may you find a little peace in something beautiful today amidst the madness. It’s the longest day of the year, full of the most light - the most moments available to us to bring brightness in abundance.

Trying to make some magic over here

Did not quite nail the self-timer here but I wanted to commemorate a good day wherein my eyebrows cooperated and all the hard work on our house was validated because a very large and very professional crew came and shot a segment for a commercial here (!!). Our dog was JAZZED about all the new friends and I am jazzed that this goofy butter-walled, popcorn ceiling’d, shag-carpeted monster house ~*shined*~ like the glossy babe she’s transformed into. Also, I discovered that a little shower and lipstick can transform ME and I should get dressed more often (I know my #workfromhome gang is nodding their collective messy bun in solidarity).

For a baby called Violet, who with me as auntie* shall not pass through into this world without her own personalized stationery.___________________________________________ *What do you guys have your kids call your friends? Did you grow up with faux-aunties and uncles too?
